It’s take a Trip Tuesday. Do you know how to hire a professional moving company?

Hi, my name is Kristina Smallhorn, Your real estate whisperer for Ascension Parish. And moving can be super stressful. And not finding the right moving company could be even worse. This video will show you five great tips to help you find the perfect moving company at the right price.

The summer months for moving is the highest traffic time for any moving company. So you’re going to want to make sure you book your moving company right away. Soon as you have a closing date and it’s pretty firm, and you’ve had it confirmed with the title company, Go ahead and schedule your moving company because you don’t want to be delayed and you want to make sure that you get a moving company that you trust right away.

I’m going to be giving you some tips on how to find a trusted moving company so follow me.

There’s two websites. I’m going to want you to check out when you’re looking for a moving company. fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move That’s going to be one great resource for you to find a proper moving company for you. The other one I want you to check is the Better Business Bureau. Everybody knows that everybody gets these kinds of grain, So you’re looking for those A grades, and I want you to read those reviews. Also Google has some really great reviews of moving companies so you’re hiring the best one for you.

When you’ve found your moving company, and if you’ve searched the websites and you looked in the Better Business Bureau, you’re going to want to ask one more question of the moving company. Why do they charge for things like bubble wrap, extra boxes, extra moving tape, and moving blankets. A lot of times you have this quote that you think your cost is only going to be so much money, and then that all your items get on the truck, and they tack on all this extra stuff for moving blankets, bubble wrap. boxes. tape, and you weren’t expecting that. so make sure you have a list of how much they charge for those extra things.

it brings me to another point I wanted to make. Sometimes cheaper doesn’t always mean better. so when you get these original quotes, you’re going to really want to double-check to make sure that even though the quote may be the cheapest it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best.

Two more tips I want to give you. I know that ends up being six tipes, but this will help. first is when you go and buy packing supplies, you want to check to see where are the best places are going to be. If you’re not going to have the moving company actually pack you up, you’re going to want to buy these kinds of things that I talked about earlier. I found that Walmart has very inexpensive packing supplies, Home Depot does, as well, and so does U-Haul. And not only that, You can always call the grocery stores or any business that might be breaking down their boxes. They’re more than happy to get rid of them ’cause they don’t want to have to dispose of them either. Grocery stores seem to be a little stricter about it, but a lot of local businesses will give you their old boxes and packing peanuts.

So go ahead and call round first before you go out and buy packing supplies because you might even get them for free. my last little bonus tip, You’re going to want make a checklist of all the moving companies that you talked to and keep it all in the folder, and when you put that checklist together, put the Pro’s and Con’s of each one of those moving companies, so you can pick out the best ones.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Yes they will, with many movers specializing in singleitem service or small moves. It could be anything. But whatever it is, the item you need to move is just too much for you. From a piano, hot tub, tree or mobile home, there is a mover out there experienced in handling any household item you need transported.

Local movers charge around $25 per hour per mover. It should take 3 movers roughly 4 hours to move a 1 bedroom apartment locally, so about $300 for labor only. When moving long distance, the price can jump to around $2000 for an average weight of 3000 lbs.

For apartments, a 1 bedroom takes movers 2-4 hours to pack and a 2 bedroom takes movers 3-5 hours to pack. Packing by yourself takes much longer, starting at at least 1 day for a 1 bedroom apartment and up to 7 days for a 5 bedroom house.
Costs associated with hiring movers

Using a moving company may not be as expensive as you think, and it’s worth your time to get an estimate for large or long distance moves. Most reputable companies base the cost on the weight of your cargo. Local moves are often charged per hour.

How to Move Yourself without Professional Movers
  1. Get the right equipment.
  2. Sell or donate what you don’t need.
  3. Sell or donate what you don’t need.
  4. Recruit friends and family.
  5. Recruit friends and family.
  6. Keep everything organized.
  7. Keep everything organized.
  8. Pack up your home the right way.
According to the American Moving & Storage Association, the average cost of an intrastate move is $1,170, and the average move between states costs $5,630.Moving can be expensive, in part because you aren’t just hiring movers.
If your movers do a satisfactory job, consider tipping them $4-$5/hour per mover. For instance, if a team of 3 local movers works 8 hours to complete your short distance move, then you will end up tipping each mover $40/day which is a decent, appropriate and pretty standard tip for movers.
Yes, you can hire movers to just load, unload or pack

The concept is simple, it’s generally more affordable to provide your own truck, storage container or freight trailer than it is to hire a full service moving company.

Some of these tips can also apply to renting a moving truck.
  1. Reduce Your Load. Before you move, clear out any items you don’t want anymore.
  2. Move During the Off-Season. Choosing the best time to move can save you money.
  3. Book Movers Early. The sooner you book your mover, the less likely you are to be charged a higher rate.
So, how much money to save before you move out? The numbers can vary considerably depending on your particular circumstances, but $4,000 should be enough when you’re moving locally. And $10,000 is a good amount of money to have saved up before moving out of state.
